Sri Lanka Customs seized 26 kg of gold biscuits and jewellery valued close to Rs. 320 million following an operation carried out at the Bandaranaike International Airport today (30), said Customs spokesman, Deputy Director of Customs (Legal) Sudaththa Silva.
A passenger arriving from Doha, Qatar has handed over a package of gold to a maintenance worker at the BIA washroom, and when the BIA worker tried to leave the airport premises with the parcel, he was apprehended.
Customs says this is the largest haul of gold seized in a single operation in the history of Customs.
