The Supreme Court has held that several clauses in the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill are inconsistent with the Constitution and as such, must be passed by a special parliamentary majority and must also be approved by the people at a referendum, Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih informed Parliament today (30).
The Court has however, stated that these violations shall cease and the Bill can be passed by a simple parliamentary majority if the amendments proposed in its determination are accomodated, the Deputy Speaker added.
