DNA tests have confirmed that Pulasthini Mahendran alias Sarah Jasmine, the wife of one of the suicide bombers in the Easter Sunday attack had been killed in an explosion that took place in April 2019 in Sainthamaruthu.
Though the police earlier claimed that she had died in the explosion the reports were doubted leading to further checks.
Accordingly a DNA test was carried out checking the samples of her mother, Rajaratnam Kavida comparing with the DNA samples from pieces of bones from the site of explosion on April 26, 2019.
The CID has reported the findings to courts.
Pulasthini was the wife of suicide bomber Mohammad Hasthoon who exploded himself at St Sebastian’s Katuwapitiya, Negombo.
She was born in a devout Hindu lower middle class family and was converted to Islam and radicalised, according to reports.
