Activist Dan Priyasad has been arrested by police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after arriving from Dubai.
He was arrested on charges of trying to pressure the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Nanneriya Police to prevent the arrest of an alleged drug trafficker in 2024, Police Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) said.
The Nikaweratiya Crimes Investigation Bureau had commenced an investigation into the incident. The Galgamuwa Magistrate's Court had issued a travel ban on the suspect and had also issued an open warrant for his arrest over the incident, the SSP further added. However, he had later traveled overseas.
He was arrested when he returned to the country from Dubai at about 6.00am today. He will be handed over to the Nikaweratiya Crimes Investigation Bureau for further investigation, the police spokesman said.
