The deadline to file income tax returns which ended yesterday has been extended by a week, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe told Parliament today.
He was responding to a question on persons finding it difficult to access the online system to file the tax returns.
A question was raised if it was an act of sabotage.
However Minister Semasinghe ruled out an act of sabotage, but said it was due to congestion of the system.
Mr Semasinghe said that no penalty will be imposed and that it would be considered that the tax returns have been filed by November 30 if they file within the next week.
