Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva has announced a 45-day extension of the deadline for bids to be submitted for SriLankan Airlines.
Today (Mar. 5), was set aside for a live auction to select an investor for SriLankan Airlines’ divestiture.
However, Minister de Silva announced at today’s media briefing that bids would be invited for an additional forty-five days before the national carrier's investor is selected.
The Minister also added that the Cabinet of Ministers had approved a plan for the Government to take over SriLankan Airlines’ outstanding debt, which totaled USD 510 million.
Moreover, the national flag carrier’s services will be maintained for a further six months with funding approved by the Cabinet.
