The five-member National Committee for delimitation of divisions for local government bodies will hand over its final report to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
The National Delimitation Committee was headed by former Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.
He said that one of the key features in the report is that they have been able to reduce the number of Local Government members to be elected to 4,800.
The Committee was appointed with effect from 01st of November 2022.
The other members of the committee were Mr. Jayalath R. V. Dissanayake, Mrs. W. M. M. R. Adikari, Mr. K. Thavalingam and Mr. I. A. Hameed.
The term of the Delimitation Committee ended in February.
