Criminal Investigation Department officers at Bandaranaike International Airport made the arrest when the suspect was handed the man over to them yesterday. A wanted criminal evading courts, he had fled to India by boat. As he did not possess a passport and had illegally entered India he was extradited to Sri Lanka.
The 46-year-old was identified as Mandgala Bomugalage Sumith Priyantha and is a resident of Kuruwita in Ratnapura. He is wanted for many illegal activities such as extortion of Rs 5mn, drug peddling and several murders. He was also caught in possession of a handgrenade in the Mirihana area.
After multiple arrests, he was produced before the Avissawella, Mount Lavinia and Ratnapura courts. There are several pending cases against him.
