Suspended IGP Dehsabandu Tennakoon today, has been further remanded till April 3, by the Matara Magistrate's Court.
He surrendered to courts yesterday and was remanded until today.
The Court had previously issued an open warrant for his arrest in connection with a 2023 shooting incident that took place outside the W 15 hotel in Weligama, which resulted in the death of an officer from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
The United States has told Sri Lanka that the disposition of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr and its crew is a matter for Colombo to resolve under its own laws and international obligations, while signalling it is in active talks with Sri Lanka to contain Iran’s threat to US interests.
The government today granted permission for an Iranian warship with 208 on board to enter the country.
