A group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party members facing party disciplinary action organized by the party’s 60th anniversary traditional religious ceremonies in Kataragama amidst complaints from the group led by former President Maithripala Sirisena.
The event is usually organized by the SLFP keeping up with the traditions of the party.
However, this time it was the SLFP members who face disciplinary action for violating party rules and accepting cabinet portfolios and other members who organized the event.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brother Chamal Rajapaksa were among those who attended the event held late last night.
SLFP Spokesman Prof Rohan Luxman Piyadasa said some of the SLFP members had gone on to organize the event when they had no right to organize it.
