Police have arrested a doctor attached to the Kandy Hospital in connection with the murder of a newborn baby in 2017.
The suspect was arrested by Batticaloa Police after a lengthy investigation into the discovery of the body of a male newborn baby inside a well at Udumahala Road, Batticaloa.
The 36-year-old suspect is a resident of Sainthamaruthu. He and his wife had been renting a house at Udumahala Road, Batticaloa during the period the body was discovered.
Police Media Unit said investigations have revealed that the domestic helper who had been staying with the couple had given birth to the baby and the doctor is accused of aiding and abetting the woman to suffocate her child.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate today.
