A doctor attached to the Lunawa, Moratuwa District hospital has volunteered to offer her services to visit elderly patients at their homes and treat them.
Dr Malkanthi Galhena, a Specialist in Family Health visits patients who cannot visit a hospital for a range of reasons visits the patients at their homes to check on them.
Dr Galhena said that she gets a satisfaction by providing her service free of charge and hopes to expand her service to other nearby areas.
Some elderly patients are unable to visit hospital as at times they cannot find someone to accompany them or due to difficulties in transporting them.
Her service has been praised by the residents in the area.

Sri Lanka today reiterated its rejection of all United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolutions on Sri Lanka including the external evidence gathering mechanism initiated by the OHCHR.
