A copy of a new draft Bill called the "National Security Act," which is intended to replace the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) interim Act was handed over to Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the Minister of Justice, yesterday. The handover took place at the ministry's facilities yesterday morning.
With the goal of repealing the contentious PTA and enacting a National Security Act to bolster national security, the minister created an expert group headed by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Nerin Pulle and Nalinda Indatissa PC.
Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam presented the draft to the Minister, along with Vasantha Perera, the Ministry of Justice Secretary, D.D. Kulasena, the Additional Legal Draftsman of the Legal Draftsman's Department, Hiranya Perera, the Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, and other ministry officials.
