A driver who deliberately knocked down a Police Constable when he was directed to submit his driving license for inspection on the Havelock Road in the Bambalapitiya police area has been arrested and remanded, Police said today (31).
The vehicle heading from the Thunmulla junction towards Kirulapone had been halted near the Vajira road junction on December 29.
However, when the policeman stretched his hand for the licenses the driver had put up the shutter and driven the vehicle forward with the constable’s hand caught in the shutter. He had driven the vehicle forward and deliberately brushed against another parked vehicle and the policeman had fallen down.
He had left behind the police constable and escaped from the scene. The injured police constable was admitted to hospital.
The driver had surrendered to police later and the vehicle was taken into custody.
The suspect, a 40-year-old person from Colombo 13 has been remanded and is being charged for attempted murder.
Police has released the video of the incident.
