A drug addict has been placed under arrest today (Feb. 27) by the Norochcholai Police in Puttalam, over the murder of his wife.
The woman was reportedly beaten by her spouse to death, in the Karamba area of Norochcholai, Norochcholai Police said.
The deceased woman was a resident of the Karamba area and the mother of two children.
The Norochcholai Police had repeatedly warned the arrested suspect, who had a severe drug addiction, not to harass her, upon receipt of complaints on beating and other forms of harassment.
Police reports that the suspect has been detained for two months over a number of allegations, including drug offenses.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect had returned to his children’s grandmother’s place where the mother of the two children were staying taking care of the children and her mother while working a daily wage job.
She was severely beaten by the suspect spouse on Sunday (Feb. 25) night preventing her from being admitted to the hospital. However, upon admission to Base hospital in Puttalam she succumbed to her injuries this morning (Feb. 27).
The post-mortem examination of the deceased woman will be conducted by the Puttalam Base Hospital’s Forensic Pathologist.
Further investigations into the incident are currently being carried out by the Norochcholai Police.
