EC announces guidelines for election offices ahead of Presidential polls

News

In preparation for the upcoming presidential election this Saturday, the Election Commission (EC) has issued a series of directives aimed at ensuring free and fair polling across the country.

These guidelines apply to all candidates, polling agents, authorized agents, local agents, and their supporters, with an emphasis on compliance for a smooth election process.

All election offices in each electorate currently established at the constituency level are permitted to operate until today midnight. After this deadline, these offices must cease operations and close immediately.

Election offices set up in each polling area will commence operations tomorrow (Sept 20) and will remain open until midnight on September 22.

Central election offices, also established at each electorate, may remain operational until midnight on September 22. If candidates or their authorized representatives choose to use their own residence as a polling office, this too must close by the same deadline.

To maintain order and fairness, the EC has also placed strict limits on campaign advertising in the lead-up to the election.

According to their directives, all posters, advertisements, and decorative displays, except billboards authorized to be under 40 square feet, must be removed by midnight on September 18.

Teams comprising police officers and district/regional investigation officers will begin inspecting all polling offices from today morning (19) to ensure compliance with these regulations. Offices found in violation will face immediate action, including the removal of illegal campaign materials.

From September 19 onward, any campaign boards in authorized party offices that violate the guidelines will be taken down. Authorities will also shut down any offices operating in contravention of election laws.

The EC has stressed the importance of adhering to these guidelines to guarantee a transparent and orderly election process.

All candidates and their teams are urged to comply fully with these regulations to avoid disruptions and penalties during the crucial final days leading to the election.
