A 68 year old man has died after an earth-slip damaged several shops along the Colombo-Peradeniya road last night (21), Police said.
The deceased, a resident of Peradeniya has been sleeping inside one of the four shops damaged. Firefighters, electricity board, disaster management rescue workers and residents were able to recover the body buried in soil.
Peradeniya police said traffic along the road continues as usual.
Several areas in Kandy district have been issued with landslide warnings. Thumpane DSD and surrounding areas have been issued with level 2 warning (to be on alert if rain continues).
Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Medadumbara, Gangawata Korale, Pathadumbara and Ududumbara DS divisions have been issued with level 1 warning.
In house patients at the maternity ward of Teldeniya Hospital were sent to National Hospital-Kandy after an earth slip damaged the building two days ago.
