Commemorating the fourth year anniversary of the Easter Sunday Attacks, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has requested the Catholic devotees to engage in a silent protest in selected locations in the western province from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm on Friday.
The protests are to be held alongside the Colombo-Negombo Main Road, Galle Road from Dehiwala to Moratuwa or from Kalutara to Beruwala. During this time there will be a two-minute silence at 8.45 am, the exact time the attack happened.
The Cardinal called all the citizens to join this silent protest regardless of their religion, caste, and race. He also requested all offices and factories to engage in the two-minute silence.
Furthermore, there will be a march of prayer from St. Sebastian’s Church Katuwapitiya to St. Anthony’s Church, Kochchikade from 7.00 pm today and will conclude tomorrow morning.
The Cardinal emphasized the ‘Human Chain’ was formed to demand justice and to strengthen the laws in order to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
The Easter Sunday attacks that included the churches in Kochchikade and Katuwapitiya and hotels claimed the lives of 272 people and about 500 were left injured.
Various churches islandwide will be having special services and silent protests in various methods.
