The Election Commission (EC) has outlined the acceptable forms of personal identification required for voting in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Voters must present one of the following documents to receive a ballot at the polling station: a National Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration of Persons, a valid passport, a valid driving license, a Pensioners' Identity Card issued by the Department of Pensions, an Elders’ Identity Card issued by the Divisional Secretariat, a Bikkhu or Priest Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration of Persons, a letter from the Department of Registration of Persons verifying National Identity Card details, a temporary Identity Card issued by the EC, or a temporary Identity Card for disabled persons issued by the EC.
The EC further emphasized that identity cards with unclear or illegible photos or details will not be accepted.
Furthermore, cards issued by ministries, departments, or government agencies, as well as receipts for National Identity Card applications, will not be valid for voting purposes.
