Members of the Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners staged a protest in front of the Welikada Prison yesterday (26), on the occasion of the International Day in Support for Victims of Torture.
Batticaloa District Parliamentarian Minister Shanakiyan Rasamanikam demanded equal rights for Tamil political prisoners as Duminda Silva. Suresh Nandimal De Silva (Secretary) and Senaka Perera (President) of the Committee also spoke to the media.
Later the protestors disbursed after a police officer showed a court order asking the protestors not to continue the protest in a way that the prisoners would witness the protest.
