Fishermen in the area say that Rachchikattuwa - Karukupane beach has started to erode once again.
Every year during the monsoon season, this beach begins to erode. In such cases, the Department of Coast Conservation will use rock falls to reduce erosion. However, the fishermen from Karukupane say that although the erosion has started once again, no rock laying has taken place so far.
Several fishermen cove areas have also been damaged due to the erosion.
