A proposal to introduce LANKAQR method to pay at expressway counters has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Once implemented, drivers using expressways will be able to pay the toll within eight to ten seconds by scanning the QR code through LANKAQR active mobile payment app of any bank at the paying gate by indicating the relevant amount of money on their mobile phone.
“The government has joined hands with all licensed financial institutions in the endeavor of popularising/encouraging LANKAQR payment methodology with the objective of minimising the physical use of money,” the Cabinet paper said.
