
FACETS, Sri Lanka's premier edition gem and jewellery exhibition kicked off at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo on Saturday. The exhibition is scheduled for three days till Monday and is being held after three years since COVID lockdown in 2019.
"All we need is policies and we are hoping and believing that tourists and buyers will visit Sri Lanka and bring in the dollars the country needs at this juncture," said Althaf Iqbal, Chairman FACETS Sri Lanka. He made this remark during the launch of the exhibition on Saturday.
Minister of Industries and Plantations, Ramesh Pathirana who was the Chief Guest at the event highlighted that the gem and jewelry industry will aim towards US$1 billion in exports in 2023 while facilitating value addition of the gems by enabling all technology and equipment related to value addition being duty free.
Many foreign gem and jewellery buyers were seen on the first day of the exhibition, thrilled to witness what Sri Lankan gem and jewellery industry has to offer. (Raj)
