Fair weather alert

News

Fair weather will prevail in much of Sri Lanka today, the Department of Meteorology said.

Hence, several spells of showers will fall out in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 KMPH can be anticipated periodically over the Northern, North Central and Eastern provinces.

In the meantime, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the marine areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly over the sea area around the island and would strike at 30-40 KMPH.

Wind speed may shoot up to 50-55 KMPH at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Trincomalee via Mannar, Kankesanthurai and Mullaitivu plus, in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Trincomalee via Mannar, Kankesanthurai and Mullaitivu and the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota may turn rough intermittently whilst the rest of the sea areas around the island will be moderately rough.

Besides, temporarily strong gusts of wind and very turbulent waters can be foreseen during thundershowers.
