Fairly heavy rain forecast for several provinces today

Several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern Provinces will experience moderately heavy showers of about 75mm today (20), according to the Department of Meteorology. 

A few spells of showers are due in Western and Southern provinces during the morning. 

It further predicts showers or thundershowers over most parts of the island after 2.00 pm today.

In fact, the Met. Department has foreseen a low pressure area is prone to develop over central parts of the Bay of Bengal. 

Hence, naval and fishing communities were sent word not to venture into deep and shallow sea areas and were further requested to be on alert over future forecasts sent out by the Met. Dept. 

In the meantime, showers or thundershowers are on the cards at a few places in the sea areas around the island. 

Winds will be south-westerly or inconstant in direction and will strike at 20-30 KMPH.

The sea areas around the island are expected to be toned down although strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
