A 53-year-old man was killed and his daughter injured after the supports of boom truck parked on a hill gave way, leading to the truck going downhill out of control and crashing into the motorbike carrying the victims in Kegalle yesterday.
Police Media Unit said the driver of the boom truck had parked the vehicle facing Kegalle along the Beragala Road and was in the process of loading logs onto the truck using the truck's lever system. The supports that prevented the truck from going downhill had suddenly given way, leading to the vehicle going downhill out of control. The truck had then collided from behind with a motorbike that was parked on the road ready to travel towards Kegalle. The motorcyclist and his daughter who were on the motorbike had been injured in the crash and rushed to the Kegalle Hospital where the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased is a 53-year-old resident of Kegalle.
The truck driver has been arrested over the incident. Kegalle Police are investigating.
