The Board of Governors of the President's Fund, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has decided to provide financial assistance to students of families affected by wild elephant attacks as an incentive to continue their education.
It was decided to give priority to families where family members were either killed or injured due to wild elephant attacks.
Children of families whose property and crops have been damaged due to wild elephant attacks too would be able to obtain the financial assistance.
As per the observation of the Divisional Secretary, the family unit should be eligible to receive assistance, and a family with children studying from Grade 1 to GCE Ordinary Level or GCE Advanced Level is considered eligible to receive this financial assistance.
The family must have been affected by the wild elephant attack on or after January 01 2025 and must not be a beneficiary of the GCE Advanced Level Scholarship Program already implemented by the President's Fund.
This program is expected to provide financial assistance of Rs. 3,000 per month for a maximum period of 12 months for a selected child studying from Grade 1 to Grade 11, and Rs. 5,000 per month for a maximum period of 12 months for a selected child studying in Grades 12 and 13, starting from 1st April 2025.
Accordingly, all Divisional Secretaries have been informed to obtain the details of children from families who meet the qualifications in their Divisional Secretariat Division and, under their personal supervision, forward the relevant applications, along with their recommendations, to the Secretary of the President's Fund without delay.
