A coir factory located in the Dharmapuram area of the Kilinochchi district was destroyed in a fire last night, Police said.
The fire began at a coir factory located in the same coconut estate which later spread to the coconut trees.
It is reported that, as many as 50 coconut trees were also completely damaged.
The residents together with the Kilinochchi fire brigade service managed to dowse the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown and it is believed to have been spread due to the dry weather conditions in the area, the Killinochchi Police further said.
