The fire that broke out in the Laxapana Tea Factory at Nallathanniya this early morning is suspected to have been caused by an electrical leak.
A detailed investigation will be carried out, police said.
An officer from the Nallathanniya Police stated that the fire, which had erupted around 1:00 am, had caused widespread damage to the factory.
He said the fire spread rapidly and was therefore difficult to control.
Later, with assistance provided by the Hatton, Dickoya Municipal Council fire engine, Nallathanniya Police personnel, Laxapana Army Camp Staff and estate personnel, measures were taken to extinguish the fire.
Heavy damage has been caused to the factory equipment and production.
