Five army officers were injured when the van they were traveling in collided with a bowser at Radawadunna, Nittambuwa early this morning (20).
Six army officers had been inside the van when the accident occurred. Five of them sustained injuries and were admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital. One officer was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
The officers are attached to the Polhengoda army base and were on their way to the Giritale army camp at the time of the accident. The injured officers are a staff sergeant, a sergeant and three corporals.
Police said reckless driving by the bowser's driver had caused the accident. He has been arrested and Nittambuwa Police are conducting further investigations.
