Five suspects were arrested for possession of five elephant pearls in Mahaoya by the Special Task Force (STF).
According to information received by the STF Kalavanchikudi Camp, a raid was conducted on the Konchinna Road of the Mahaoya town at around 2:30 PM on Sunday.
Three suspects travelling in a three wheeler with the elephant pearls and two suspects supporting them, travelling in a motorbike, were arrested while in possession of five elephant pearls, obtained by killing endangered tuskers.
The suspects, who are residents of Bibile, Weligama, Bandarawela and Ayiwela aged 53, 25, 32, 49 and 39, were arrested with the three wheeler, motorbike and six mobile phones, in addition to the elephant pearls.
The raid was conducted by the officials of STF Kalavanchikudi Camp Second Commander Inspector T. M. M. U. K. B. Tennakoon, under the guidance of Assistant Superintendent of Police Wewita Vidhana.
