Five persons have drowned and two fishermen reported missing in separate incidents reported by the Police over the weekend.
Two of the deaths were reported in the Norochcholai area on Sunday evening.
They were part of a group who were on a leisure trip from Madurankuliya area of the Puttalam district having a sea bath.
The victims were aged 21 and 66 years,
A 29 year old resident from Matale while bathing in the sea in Pasikudha. He was also from a group who had come on a leisure trip.
Two fishermen who had gone on fishing in a boat in the Giant Tank were reported missing.
They are feared to have drowned, but a search operation is still in progress.
Earlier on Saturday a 21 year old girl was drowned in the Attanugala Oya in the Gampaha district while another person from Nittambuwa drowned in the Deduru Oya in Chilaw.
