Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijith Herath met with Secretary General of BIMSTEC Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey recently where they discussed advancing cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation.
They also discussed health, and human resource development, which are sub-sectors led by Sri Lanka within the BIMSTEC framework.
Ambassador Pandey briefed Minister Herath on the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled to be held from 2-4 April 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, and sought Sri Lanka’s active participation and support.
Both parties also reviewed the progress of the BIMSTEC Technology Transfer Facility, which is to be established in Colombo. Ambassador Pandey emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration in these sectors to drive sustainable economic growth among BIMSTEC member states.
The BIMSTEC Secretary General recently undertook an official visit to Sri Lanka, a founding member of BIMSTEC.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organisation comprising seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations as its members.
