The United People’s Freedom Alliance’s Executive Council has decided to revive and strengthen the party which contributed for many victories.
The urgency to strengthen the party was brought up at the executive meeting held yesterday, presided by the former president Maithripala Sirisena.
The former president addressing the meeting via a social media application urged the need to strengthening the alliance which ensured the victory of many past elections. At the same time the commitment of the alliance to ensure election victories too was commended.
UPFA’s General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera too commended the actions of all the parties and allied trade unions for appointing the current government into power.
Mr Amaraweera also pointed out the need for further strengthening the alliance and explained that they need to strengthen the government in power and resolve the problems faced by people.
The alliance which last contested for an election on 2015 was once again revived with its executive committee meeting.
The UPFA last contested the parliamentary elections in 2015. At the last parliamentary elections they contested under the newly formed Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna under Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
