Former Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Priyantha Mayadunne, who was arrested earlier today on the instructions of the Attorney General over a financial fraud that occurred in 2011, has been released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga told TimesOnline that the former Secretary was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under Penal Code 389 and was subsequently produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
SSP Manathunga said he was arrested as one of the respondents in connection with a financial fraud amounting to Rs.183 million, which was allegedly committed during an event held on International Cooperative Day in 2011.
He said given the scale of the inquiry, the Attorney General has also referred certain aspects of the investigation to the Bribery Commission.
