Former UNP MP and ex-diplomat Tudor Gunasekara passed away while receiving treatment for COVID-19 . He was 86 years.
Mr Gunasekara entered active politics during the late 1960s as the UNP Chief Organiser for Mahara. He failed to gain a seat in the 1970 elections, but was successful in the 1977 elections.
In 1978, he was appointed as the district minister for the Gampaha district in the President J.R. Jayewardene government.
Later, he served as the first Sri Lanka ambassador to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
