A former member of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha has died from injuries sustained in a shooting which occurred Meegoda this afternoon (12).
He was shot by unidentified gunmen who arrived in a car. The gunmen managed to flee the scene in the same vehicle.
The victim, a 46-year-old resident of Padukka, was rushed to the Homagama Hospital but succumbed due to his injuries.
A motive for the shooting and the firearm used in the crime are yet to be determined. Meegoda Police are conducting further investigations.
A short while later, the official car of the Commander of the Navy, bearing plate NAHA 5006, departed from Navy House, Longdon Place, Colombo 7.
