A former Assistant Commissioner of the Motor Traffic Department and two others arrested over an illegal registration of a vehicle were granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate courts.
The former Assistant Commissioner currently serving as a Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Lands was arrested for giving approval for the transfer of the vehicle which had not been legally cleared from the Customs.
The vehicle had been registered under the number of GS – 9164.
The arrest were made by the Bribery Commission which was investigating the case.
The two others arrested were a Development Assistant at the MTD and a supervisory officer of the investigations Branch of the Department.
The vehicle is reported to have illegally cleared from the Customs and later registered at the MTD.
Further investigations are underway.
