Four Excise officials get bail, after shooting incident

Four Excise Department officials arrested over a shooting incident at Bambalapiitya last evening were granted bail today.

The Excise officials were involved in an operation to arrest a narcotics' dealer.

Excise Department Spokesman Kapila Kumarasinghe said that the officers had opened fire when one of the suspects tried to escape from the scene.

However, police said that the official had failed to inform the police about the operation.

A senior police officer said the Excise officials were in civvies and opening fire at the location had caused panic among the public.
