The government has decided to build four multi-story car parks in Colombo to reduce traffic congestions in Colombo and its suburbs.
These are to be built under the directives of the Urban Development Authority and the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, together with the help of both public and private sectors.
They are to be located in front of the Sri Lanka Telecom Institute in Colombo, the old fish market and in Narahenpita.
One of the projects completed in Union Place, Colombo two was completed and handed over to the public yesterday by the Ministry.
This was built by Access Engineering at a cost of Rs.1,400 million and its ownership will be transferred to the UDA after 30 years. As per the agreement, the UDA will receive a 20% of the car park's monthly income.
The operations of these car parks are to be computerized, ensuring complete security for all the vehicles.
