The Fox Hill Super cross 2024 in Diyathalawa, ended in tragedy today after a car veered off the track, killing at least seven persons including for officials conducting the event and injuring 30 others.
Police Media Spokesman, Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that the accident occurred after one of the cars veered into the crowd.
A 12 year old girl witnessing the race too was among those killed.
All remaining races were called off following the accident which has been described as one of the worst in motor sports.
The deceased were soldier R. Abeynayake ( Embilipitiya), Ganesh Jayawardana (Matara), Aruna Shantha Upali Gamage (Matara), Ashen Heenatigala(Matara), Chaminda Niroshan, Udayakumara (Mirhawatta at Dyaarbar junction and Dhanushika from the same area.
