Police backed by the Automobile Association has launched a fresh campaign against motorist offering charity to beggars at colour lights.
A 40 second video has been launched to create awareness about the dangers of offering charity to beggars near colour lights.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Indika Hapugoda said along with the campaign the Police will also be strict in enforcing the law.
He said, apartment from the harassment to the motorist they were also obstructing traffic near colour lights.
He said also it was bad for the image of the country in the context of tourism.
A joint press conference was held by the Police, the AA and relevant officials today to launch the campaign.
