Health workers, armed forces personnel and the tourism sector today (1) started receiving the third booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine.
Army Commander Shavendra Silva who heads the COVID-19 committee was present at the Army Hospital in Narahenpita where they launched the vaccination programme.
He said that those who have received both vaccines six months earlier will be entitled to receive the booster vaccine.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on October 29 ordered frontline workers and tourism staff to be given a third booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine.
The President’s office earlier said that over a million people including security forces personnel, health workers and those in the tourism industry will be given a third dose.
So far over 65 per cent of the population has received the two doses of the vaccine while vaccination of the school children has commenced.
