The 3rd generator of the Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai that was added to the national grid yesterday (31) has malfunctioned again due to a technical fault.
The loss of the 3rd generator means that the national grid will loose 270 MegaWatts of power.
However, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the power sector regulator, says there will be no power cuts.
The PUCSL said yesterday that the Ceylon Electricity Board's (CEB) request for a power interruption will not be allowed till February 4. The CEB had earlier proposed for to the PUCSL to go for scheduled power cuts from January 25 to February 4.
