Southern parts of the country will experience cloudy skies, evening thundershowers and strong winds today as a result of a low-level atmospheric disturbance, the Meteorology Department forecasted.
Due to the atmospheric disturbance intensifying into a low-pressure area during the next 24 hours showers or thundershowers are expected during evenings or at night.
The department said the Northeast monsoon has established over the island bringing rain to Eastern, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and in Polonnaruwa district. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern province and in Anuradhapura district.
Public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
