The Government has begun to crackdown on hoarding of essential commodity stocks by errant traders seeking to create an artificial shortage and increase prices with the aim of earning profits during this difficult period.
Issuing his first official directive after assuming office, the newly appointed Commissioner General of Essential Services, Major General M.D.S.P. Niwunhella has ordered all Government Agents and the Inspector General of Police to take prompt action towards this end.
In a letter to GA’s and the IGP, he directed them to take necessary measures to conduct raids and purchase those hidden stocks at controlled prices and supply it to consumers at a reasonable prices.
Major General Niwunhella has also informed them to devise a mechanism to distribute these stocks of essential commodities among consumers conveniently
He has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Essential Services to coordinate the supply of paddy, rice, sugar and other consumer goods that are essential to maintain the lives of the people.
