State Minister of National Security Chamal Rajapaksa told Parliament today that the Kotelawala National Defence University (KNDU) Bill will not be debated on Friday (6) as earlier scheduled.
In answer to a question raised by United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mr Rajapaksa said that the proposed bill will not be presented to Parliament on Friday as the government intends to give more time for the public to express their views.
This is the second time that the government has postpone continuing the debate on the KNDU Bill following mass public protests launched against it. The draft bill has come under severe criticism from many quarters while even some within the government have expressed reservations against moving the bill in its current form without significant amendments.
