A long-standing dispute between two families is believed to be the main cause of the shooting incident which led to the deaths of three members of the same family Thursday (October 6) at Minuwangoda.
Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles told Parliament that there were number of rival killings taking place and today's incident was a similar incident where three accused in a previous case were gunned down.
The shooting at the Gampaha town of Minuwangoda on Thursday comes as a follow-up of a spate of shooting incidents, just a few months again, where Gampaha and Colombo Districts served as the center.
The Police suspect the murderers to have arrived in a car and a motorbike and had used T-56 rifles to murder the 51 year old father and two sons, aged 24 and 23, who are residents of Ganamangedara, Minuwangoda.
The murdered had been arrested a few months ago, on charges of murder and had been granted bail, leading the Police to believe that the murders were committed over a long-time dispute.
However, the Police are conducting investigations to arrest the suspects, with a few teams being engaged, supervised by the Gampaha Senior Superintendent of Police, while the Minuwangoda Magistrate is to inspect the scene.
“We are continuously conducting the necessary activities to arrest the suspects”, the Police Spokesman, Nihal Thalduwa said, while the Gampaha Division Crime Investigation officers are investigating the situation.
While the dead body of one victim is kept at the Minuwangoda Hospital, the the other two dead bodies are kept at the scene of the crime under Police observation.
