The main Opposition -Samagi Jana Blawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarians Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara on Friday strongly defended their decision to take cabinet portfolios by extending support to the government.
Holding a press conference, both reiterated that they became independent in order to serve the people and resolve the current situation.
Newly-appointed Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando explained they told the party leadership that they should work together in order to bring the country out of the crisis situation.
“As we did not obtain a positive response from the party leadership We become independent and took portfolios to serve people,” he said.
Both Ministers said that they have kept aside political differences to take necessary actions and support Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to resolve the crisis.
However, the SJB’s General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that they have decided to remove the party membership of the two members and carry out a disciplinary inquiry.
He elaborated that their party has discipline, therefore if any party member breaches party discipline action would be taken.
