Samagi Jana Balawegaya Vice Chairman and Head of operations of the party Harin Fernando was today (1) appointed as the Wattala electorate organiser with the launch of his party office.
Just a month after coming out from a heart surgery Mr Fernando took over the responsibility as Wattala electorate organiser while pledging to give support to make a change in the Gampaha district which has the largest vote base.
Party leader Sajith Premadasa and almost all senior members of the party were present at the launch of the Wattala party office.
He said that the main reason to shift from Badulla to the Gampaha district was that it had a bigger voter base with 1.7 million votes compared to some 600,000 votes in Badulla. “But I will never forget to serve the people of Badulla”, he said.
Setting an example to some of the politicians Mr Fernando pledged that he would retire at the age of 60 years. He handed over an affidavit to the party leader promising to quit politics at the age of 60.
Mr Fernando addressing the gathering said he was calling on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to give a presidential pardon to former MP Ranjan Ramanayake and that he was willing to quit his parliamentary seat.
He said that his comments about the investigations regarding Easter Sunday attack has now been picked up by Cardinal Malcom Ranjith as well.
Mr Premadasa addressing the gathering said that Mr Fernando played a key role in the past including the formation of the SJB.
